I’ve never done a word for the year, but the last couple of months or so God’s been kinda putting this one everywhere I turn. Peace.
The anxiety of last year was just so hard so hard on every aspect of our lives. The anxiety of financial issues last year, postpartum anxiety, Jordan working crazy hours…all of it resulted in a disturbance of the peace of our home.
And then add on all the turmoil in the world right now with Syria and bombings and shootings…One of the best ways to turn that all around is to focus on our family right now. Our kids are the future and by teaching them to be loving, holy people, we’ll be making the most impact.
So this year, I’m focusing on bring peace to our marriage, family, home, finances, and even in my own emotional well being. I’m still working out how I’m going to accomplish all of this.

But God’s been revealing little ways here and there. I was driving the other day and praying about how He wanted me to work towards peace and when I turned on the radio, EWTN was reading this quote,
The fruit of Silence is prayer. The fruit of Prayer is faith. The fruit of Faith is love. The fruit of Love is service. The fruit of Service is peace. – Blessed Mother Theresa
I’m still chewing on this quote, trying to really break it down. It’s deep, you know? There are so many aspect of that quote that point out things I need to work on.
And then I found this little booklet in the back of church called “Peace Begins with Us: 12 Ways Families can Promote Peace” by Connie Clark. Thank you miss Hailey for throwing one of your royal fits during Mass and which ended up bringing me to this quote,
Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life, rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise, God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely through all things. And when you cannot stand it, God will carry you in his arms. Do not fear what may happen tomorrow; the same understanding Father who cares for you today will take care of you then and every day. He will either shield you from suffering or will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations. – St. Francis de Sales
This little booklet has so many quotes from St. Francis de Sales. I’ve never read anything by him before so I think I may have to add that to my reading this year.
I’ve got lots of reading to do and we’ve been implementing little changes in our day to day life to help promote peace. And by peace, I don’t mean the kids don’t fight or it’s never loud. But just creating an overall more enjoyable environment for everyone where our souls can feel at peace with our work and play.
Maybe I’ll write about a few of the changes we’ve been making…I haven’t decided yet.
Do you have a word for this year? Do you have any suggested reading or quotes to help me in my goal this year?
