The weather has been beautiful and then stormy (tornado hit just 7 miles from our house) then snowing. It’s been a bit of a whiplash effect.
And depending on where you live, I’m sure you’ve had the same thing.
Also, it’s the first Monday after Daylight Savings (need I say more?) … So how about a few things that could cheer you up?
I took away screen time for the kids during lent. Behavior has been on the rise (for better!) and once their detoxing tantrums were over, life has been just a tad bit more peaceful.
I always know this is the case, it’s just a matter of me keeping on top of it. Being an engaged parent is exhausting. T.V is an easy way you, you know?
Anyway, in the evenings Jordan and I have been enjoying a few shows.
When Calls the Heart
I’ll be honest with this one, it’s super cheesy. Hallmarky to the max. But I still love it. Even if I tend to do a lot of commentary with Jordan, which basically amounts to us making fun of it.
Season 3 just came out on Netflix, in case you haven’t heard about that yet.
And total side note, if you want to watch the actors singing a duet together, it’s pretty adorable. Who knew they could sing. And dare I say, sing better than they act?
So this one is kind of inappropriate. If you like New Girl type humor, you’ll get along just fine with this. If that horrifies you, this one probably isn’t for you.
However, if you can get past that, it’s hilarious. And it brings up some interesting discussions about what you would do if you knew the world was going to be hit by a meteor on a certain date? What bucket list items would you have?
Which, that’s the whole premise of the story. Xavier is a scientist who has figured out that a meteor is going to hit the earth in a few months. Meets this girl named Evie and they go check off the items on their bucket lists together.
You’ve heard of this one, right? It’s all over the place. Season 1 is on Amazon Prime and we just got Season 2 from the library since we didn’t get to watch it live on PBS.
The music and the acting and the characters are just so good. It’s seriously one of our favorite shows to watch. I have to say, I’m super mad at Ross at the end of this season.
But it’s inspired me to read the books so I can prepare myself for Season 3. Hopefully it comes in soon, so I can get started.
I’m finally making my way through some of the books that have been mentioned on the Fountains of Carrots Podcast.
The Awakening of Miss Prim
I’m sure you’ve heard all about this one, so I won’t go into too many details. But it was just such a sweet book. It was a quick read and I just loved it. Also, I want Miss Prim’s job of going through all those books.
All the Light We Cannot See
I kept seeing this one recommended over and over again. So I went ahead and started this one and then finished the almost 600 page book in just a few days.
It’s about a German soldier during WWII. You rarely hear about the war from their side and it was so interesting to hear about it from that side. It was fascinating to see how someone could slowly be immersed into that evil and not realize how wrong it was until you were deep into it.
Kind of a little bit like our world now.
I’ve got a few things in the makeup and skin care department that I’m loving too. But I think I’ll save those for a separate post.
Hope daylight savings is treating you better than normal!
Have you read or watched any of these? Did you like them? Do you have any recommendations for other shows or books?
